Barcelona star and four time world footballer of the year, Lionel Messi, hit the record books once again as his skyward shot got entangled in the clouds for over twenty minutes.
This feat occurred in a warm up preseason friendly match which saw Barcelona take on an unscheduled team.
Messi, had dribbled six players and was one on one with the keeper when he decided to shoot but the ball hit the bar. In anger, he shot the ball into the sky and the ball kept moving higher and higher until it was entangled in the clouds. For over twenty minutes, the stadium watched in awe and in confusion. Eventually the deflated ball came crashing down to earth, and was taken away by the ball boys.
The referee issued a yellow card to Lionel Messi for his "bad temper" and a freekick awarded for the delay.
In a post match interview, Messi said that he didn't intend to set any new records but was frustrated as the ball hitting the bar reminded him of the recently concluded Copa America final where he reportedly sent a penalty shot to the hospital.
Guinness, the company in charge of World Records is verifying this unusual claim
